Master Joseph Larison

Joseph R. Larison holds a 7th degree black belt Grandmaster ranking with the C&S Self Defense Association, as well as a 2nd degree black belt ranking with the National Karate Association.

Master Larison was born in Montrose, Illinois in 1953. He began his training in the Martial Arts in 1981. He obtained his 1st Degree Black Belt in Shudo- Kan karate from Grandmaster David Landers in March of 1988. In January of 1990, Mr. Larison became the head Instructor of Grandmaster Landers YMCA School.

He obtained his 2nd Degree Black Belt in 1993 and was accepted as Grandmaster Landers's disciple in the White Cobra. Mr. Larison received his 5th Degree Black Belt promotion from the Governing Council of C∓S Self Defense Association at the Master Candidate Review, November 4, 2004. He received his 6th Degree Black Belt from the Governing Council of C&S Self Defense Association on November 15, 2015. In recognition for his work bringing a student up through the ranks to 5th Degree Black Belt Master level, he was awarded the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt and the title of Grandmaster at the 2017 Master Candidate Review.

Over the years Master Larison has worked in various fighting systems such as Kali, Arnis, Escrima, Jujitsu, Aikido and JKD. He prefers the knife and escrima sticks as weapons.

Master Larison lives in Montrose, IL where he is head instructor of the Sun Leopard Fighting Arts. Classes available by appointment only. Mjlarison@outlook.com
